Prepare your vehicle for your Hari Raya celebration with Bateriku.com

No amount of words could express the excitement of Malaysians who will be celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri next week!
For the last two years, we had to live through the pandemic which took the world by surprise and resulted in strict SOPs from social activities, travelling and work put out by the government in order to prevent the virus from spreading entirely.
This year, with many of us being vaccinated with two compulsories shot and a booster, we're finally able to see cases falling from the chart. As good as this may sound, it gets better as Malaysia had just entered the endemic phase recently which enable Malaysians to live with less restriction with almost 90% of the strict SOP's being lifted after two years!

With everyone planning their trip, there's no doubt that they'll be a surge or vehicles travelling back with their family, so we are here to help you prepare your vehicle before you make your most awaited trip back home!!

1. Low tyre pressure

Problem

For those who have never travelled to an outer state before and you're thinking that you could make that 5-hour trip without any complication, well here's some advice for you. Your car tyre pressure is as important as your other components, a low tyre pressure could wear your tyre overtime and consume your fuel more than it possibly would. Other than that, there's also a possibility for you to mess up your vehicle's alignment that could cause serious accidents on the road.

How to

Checking your tyre pressure is as easy as turning your signals on the road when making a turn. If you look closely at your door panel, you should see a steel plate with an indication of how much pressure you'll need to put on each tyre. It's as simple as that! All you need to do next is to drive by the nearest petrol station and fill the pressure on your tires accordingly.

2. Overheating radiator

Problem

The radiator is the main part of your car's cooling system. Its purpose is to keep the engine coolant fluid level at the right level.

The radiator also functions to ensure that your engine maintains a safe temperature while operating. But what happens when it overheats? The worst-case situation is a blown head gasket and leaks which are not only dangerous to your vehicle's components such as your car engine but it will also be one of the most expensive repairs you'll ever have to make!

How to

The only thing that you need to do is open up your radiator cap and check if there's a sufficient coolant level inside. If it's not visible, then immediately pour a gentle amount of coolant to prevent overheating but ALWAYS make sure to NOT OPEN the radiator cap when the engine is still HOT. It that SIMPLE but so often ignored by drivers, it is highly recommended that you get a pre-mixed coolant at the nearest store.

3. Unchecked engine oil

Problem

Your car fuel isn't the only oil component that is vital to your vehicle. Do you know that your engine oil is as important as ensuring your vehicle operates without any problems? Your engine oil plays a huge role in allowing your engine to run properly overtime. Your engine oil is used to enhance your engine, pistons and cylinders. Without a sufficient amount of it, these components could rot, crack and damage overtime.

How to

Notice that there's a small handle by your engine which you can pull out. That is particularly known as the engine oil's dipstick. Agan, before you pull it out, PLEASE make sure that your vehicle is in a warm temperature. It is advisable to do it in the morning before starting your vehicle. Once you pull it out, wipe it on any cloth and put it back in. And once it's fully in, pull it back and inspect the engine oil level. If it's under the highest indicator, then the oil level is just about right but if it's below the lowest indicator, then you should fill it up before starting your journey.

4. Insuficient brake oil

Problem

Brake fluid is very important to your car's brake system. The brake fluid helps move all of the parts in the brake system. Braking fluid is a non-compressible substance that is found in the brake lines. With your brake oil, it will enable your brakes to function properly, especially when you're breaking at high speed as it gives the capacity to withhold your vehicle. Brake fluid depletion makes it difficult for the vehicle to operate to its full potential, which may result in malfunctions.

How to

To start off, open up your car hood and find the brake fluid reservoir near your engine bay. As we mentioned before, always make sure that your vehicle is turned off. After opening the cap, refer to the instructions which were put by the manufacturer and fill it in accordingly depending on the oil level. Always remember that a regular brake fluid change is to ensure an appropriate braking system operation for your vehicle and the brake fluid should be changed every year or two, depending on the vehicle.

5. Avoid complications, know where you gas cap is!

Problem

What is worse than being on the wrong side of the petrol pump? In this case it means that your gas tank is on the other side of the petrol pump. Adjusting or repositing your vehicle in a dense and packed pump station will be such a hassle for everyone else around you, especially during this year's holiday. It is best that you know exactly where your gas tank is, fill it up and continue your journey.

How to

Checking where your gas tank is positioned is easy! Just look at the fuel indicator icon on your dashboard and you'll see a small arrow indicating left or right. And yes, you're exactly right, if it points on the right then it means that your gas cap is located in that direction. Always be mindful that not all vehicles will have this but it's always better to check yours before reaching a gas station.
